If you are a wine connoisseur then this region is unmissable. Situated in the heart of rural Spain, La Rioja and ribera del Duero are emblems of quality and elite mediterranean wines. The way in which this region has developed over the years has been spectacular; you’ll discover a marvelous spectacle of wine estates boasting contemporary architecture in an ocean of vineyards surrounded by spectacular nature.
We want you to understand the traditions of wine making in Spain, and how it evolved into this cluster of sublime vintages and world famous labels. By getting to know the producers, their lands and by understanding the geography, this complex art of forging good wine will hold no secret for you.
To this end, we will navigate the vineyards by 4wd, cycle between the vines, speak to the best winemakers, travel by hot air balloon flight over the Rioja valley and of course taste a lot of those amazing vintages! Cheers.
RIOJA-DUERO
DAY BY DAY
Day 1: Bienvenidos!
Enjoy a scenic hike overlooking the whole Rioja valley and have lunch with a “Porron de vino” and the most beautiful views. Have a chat with Fransesc, a barrel cooper, about his endangered art. Let’s go out for tapas with our friend Herry, a local figure, tonight !
Day 2: Wiki wiki early birds.
There’s no other other way to understand the immensity of La Rioja if not flying over it. Our hot air balloon ride will for shure end next to a glass of tempranillo. For lunch we will enjoy a cooking class with Javi young winemaker in one of the cutest villages in Spain, and finish our day in a contemporary concrete hotel for a stunning dinner.
Day 3: The Bells angels.
Riding E-bikes in between the grapes, not fearing any uphils; witnessing the greatest architecture and the best grape blends for wine tastings, this will be the challenge of the day. (Hopefully you’re the one to try it). Tonight we sleep in the mountain town of Ezcaray, and meet our friend Juan Carlos, el rey de la moda!
Day 4: Like a Castilian Cow-Boy.
On the menu today: riding horses in between the grapes, and meeting the most elegant winemaker in the duero; Estefania for a brilliant wine tasting. Having lunch in an old mill on the Duero, transformed into a stunning gastronomic place. Relaxing into one of the best hotels in Europe, and enjoying its Spa (known to be outstanding). Why not even have a Michelin restaurant for dessert !
Day 5: The wine safari, hunting wild grapes.
Walking the Duero and exploring its fauna will bring us to Millan and Vicky’s house, our hosts for the day. They want to show us how they produce their cheese and will invite us to their table for an epic barbecue typical from Castilla. Jumping in their 4wd we embark for a wine safari in the Retuerta wine estate. And of course at last but not least celebrating our final night together.
Day 6: Adios!
Say goodbye to your tour leader today! At the agreed upon time you will be driven to the airport for connecting flights home. Adios!
